چکیده

We consider forward-link soft-handoff with multiple antenna selection and fast joint power control at high data rates in a cellular code-division multiple-access network, where signals are directed to a mobile station (MS) from antennas located at the same or different base stations. The total power transmitted to any mobile is divided among the active antennas selected according to the momentary channel conditions so as to maximize the signal-interference ratio at each MS. Multiple-antenna selection is used to mitigate the effects of both shortand long-term fading, and achieve the best soft-handoff with respect to system capacity and complexity. To achieve capacity gains with soft-handoff, we derive optimum handoff thresholds corresponding to the optimum handoff region in different cell environments. Numerical results demonstrate that under high Doppler spread and large handoff-delay conditions, the proposed soft-handoff employing two transmit antennas and the optimum handoff threshold achieves a significant gain in microcell environments, but not in macrocell environments.

Cdma Radio Network Planning

A radio planning methodology for IS-95 based CDMA networks is presented. Inherent to the planning methodology i s a comprehensive performance characterization of both the forward and reverse links over a wide array of channel conditions. In addition, the link margin requirements under log-normal shadowing are addressed. Effects due to loading, Erlang variations and voice activity, soft and soft...

Theoretical Study of Site Selection Diversity Transmission in DS-CDMA Cellular Mobile Radio

Single cell reuse of the same frequency, which is possible in DS-CDMA cellular systems, yields the option of site diversity to increase link capacity. In this letter, a generalized case of site diversity transmission is considered where multiple base stations (BS’s) are involved in weighted transmissions with constant total transmit power to a target mobile station (MS). A general equation of c...

Forward-link capacity of a DS/CDMA system with mixed multirate sources

Some studies have been done on capacity of a code division multiple access (CDMA) system with mixed multirate sources. However, a vast majority of these studies have concentrated on the reverse link. This trend comes from the fact that the capacity of a CDMA system is reverse-link limited. However, forward link can be a limiting link because emerging data services are likely to require higher d...

Adaptive Soft-Handoff Thresholds for CDMA Systems with Spatial Traffic

In this paper we examine the interactions of the soft-handoff thresholds with the traffic load of a CDMA cell. We assume a user distribution following a spatial homogeneous Poisson process and determine the joint probability distribution for the radii of the two cells and the minimal overlapping area which will be interpreted as the area of soft-handoff. With these values, we can obtain the opt...

Effect of Soft and Softer Handoffs on CDMA System Capacity

The effect of soft and softer handoffs on codedivision multiple-access (CDMA) system capacity is evaluated for unsectorized and sectorized hexagonal cells according to an average bit energy-to-interference power spectral density, which corresponds to a bit-error rate (BER) of 10 3. The effect of imperfect sectorization on sectorization efficiency is also considered. On the reverse link, there i...
